"All the believers were together and had everything in common."
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you..."
For the 11 months I have lived in North Augusta, I have been praying for a church service like we had this morning. I must give all praise and glory to JESUS CHRIST who heard my cry last night (or my weeping!) and answered my prayer. My prayer partner and I have been praying every week that our focus at our church would be Christ centered and that we would allow the Holy Spirit to move in mighty ways. I felt a sense of brokenness as I was trying to go to sleep last night. I knew God would not allow me to sleep until I voiced my thoughts and my pleas. I begged for the Holy Spirit to be so obvious that we as a church body have no choice but to worship and praise Jesus. I prayed that nothing would stand in the way of us CORPORATELY worshiping God together (i.e. time restraints, song choice, OURSELVES, etc.)
As we were singing this morning I could sense a different attitude coming from the congregation. It was an attitude of openness and acceptance. Not for the Community Band, but for the Holy Spirit!! I was able to feed off of different people than normal this week, which was awesome! Then, we played/sang Savior King. This is one of our favorite songs and the congregation normally responds pretty well to it. We sang it during the offertory, which is the part of the service where everyone sits down. I looked out in the crowd during the first chorus and noticed one person standing. Then as the song progressed others started to stand. Again, this is not abnormal, but the countenance on faces was different. WE WERE HAVING CHURCH!!!!! I looked around and I saw more people than EVER before lifting their hands and glorifying GOD! They were everywhere! Not just the normal few who always do! Not only were hands lifted, but people were moving around, swaying, smiling, crying, and GENUINELY WORSHIPING JESUS! I was completely in awe of God in that moment; so much so that I could do nothing but stop singing, raise my hands, and pray, thanking God for moving.
The coolest part, and call me crazy if you will, but I truly believe that God allowed time to stand still during all of this. We aim to finish our set by 9:55 in order to give the pastor ample time for his sermon and so we can out of the service and in Sunday School by 10:30. When we started Savior King I looked at the clock and it was 9:52. Now, if you know anything about Hillsong's music you know that nothing they do is under 5 minutes! Savior King is literally like 8 minutes long. Well, when I saw the clock I was kind of like "dang, we're gonna be late getting off the stage." There was no way we could do that song in 3 minutes. And we definitely DID NOT! We actually went longer than we practiced it because the Holy Spirit was moving! People were responding! When we finished the song and went to sit down, I kid you not, the clock said exactly 9:55! Coincidence? No, God!
I have never seen a Community service go like that before. It encouraged me and brought me again to a place of complete amazement and awe of who God is! Today was a taste of what I have been so desperately craving and hungering for! Genuine corporate worship with other believers who are completely in love with Jesus!! I am fervently praying that it continues and that we continue to allow the Holy Spirit to move! Wow, today was a good day!
"Saviour King"
And now the weak say I have strength
By the spirit of power that raised Christ from the dead
And now the poor stand and confess
That my portion is Him and I'm more than blessed
Let now our hearts burn with a flame
A fire consuming all for your Son's holy name
And with the heavens we declare
You are our king
We love you Lord, we worship you
You are our God, you alone are good
You asked your Son to carry this
The heavy cross our weight of sin
I love you Lord, I worship You
Hope which was lost, now stands renewed
I give my life to honor this
The love of Christ, the savior king
Let now your church shine as the bride
That you soar in your heart as you offered up your life
Let now the lost be welcomed home
By the saved and redeemed those adopted as your own
I give my life to honor this
The love of Christ, the savior king
